Choosing an Estate Agent
With so many estate agents around, it can be difficult to choose the
right one who is trustworthy, can meet your needs, and can work with
you on a productive and amicable level.
Here are some tips:
Choose an agent who is a member of an industry body, such as the
National Association of Estate Agents or The Ombudsman scheme. This
will ensure your protection should something go wrong.
Check the agent / agencies’ credentials and reputation, asking
questions like how long they have been working in the area and their
training experience.
Try not to commit yourself to one agent straight away. Instead, choose
a few and compare their valuations and service.
Alternatively, if you have had a good experience with an agent on
a previous occasion, you should consider using that agent or agency
again.
Be wary though of too-high valuations and fees that seem unbelievably
low.
Always find out how they work, especially if you are a seller –
such as how they will advertise your property, their viewing practices
, how to present offers and so on.
Be aware that good agents always give prompt and reliable service.
Always go through all agreements and contracts before you sign anything.
