Estate Agent BasicsJust one in ten people believe estate agents to be honest, and an overwhelming 70% believe they often give deceptive information. Only a third of agents are members of a recognised industry trade body, and it is up to them whether or not to link up with to regulatory schemes in the property industry. Contrary to popular belief, estate agents do not require specialized qualifications to practise their trade - in fact, anybody can become an estate agent. Estate agent fees usually range between 0.5% and 2.5%, with the UK having some of the lowest in the world. Agents in the U.S. for instance, charge around 6%. |
